Stuff on my mind today 09/30/08

Canman | September 30, 2008

My son survived the X-Box live downtime.    The world is still spinning and he is very much still alive.

Some of the Cedar Rapids Rollergirls will be in studio Thursday night for Episode 5 of The Canman Show!   That’s gonna rock!  err… Roll!

Do you love movies?    I’ve been playing the Hollywood Stock Exchange for a few years now.    It’s worth checking out.   Basic gist is they start you out with 3 million in fake money, you invest it in movies.   Based on how they do in the real box office, the stock goes up, or down… Great Game….   Check it out.

The Sword of Truth books by Terry Goodkind are being made into a new TV show produced by Sam Raimi and others for Disney/ABC syndication.   It’s scheduled to Premiere on November 1st.  No word on which network yet.   It’s called Legend of the Seeker.   I love this series of books, but am nervous about the translation into TV.  Especially if Disney has it’s hand in it.   I don’t want Kahlan turned into Hannah Montana….

That’s what I got for now…. – Canman

As a member of “Closer Than They Appear” Improv comedy troupe, I performed for Iowa State University College of Engineering last Friday.  On the bill was us and Grant Imahara from Mythbusters…  (He wasn’t there when we were, so no autographs) It was a blast.   So a big THANK YOU to ISU for having us!

A couple notable new releases this week.  First Iron Man comes out on DVD.   This one is a BUY.  Ben Folds I(my absolute favorite musician of all time) has a new CD coming out tomorrow too titled “Way to Normal”.   I’ll  be picking both up tomorrow.

The premier of Chuck is on NBC tonight.    I didn’t watch it on HULU this past weekend, as I wanted to see it in HD.    Sure hope it was worth the wait.

I’m looking forward to this weeks episode of Ghost Hunters Wednesday evening.   It looks like it will be pretty exciting.  (I wish I had Sci Fi HD!)…

I’m wondering what we should discuss this week on the show?   Todd Gutknecht will be joining us.   Todd is one of the most talented voice impersonators I have ever met….  Should be a funny episode.

That’s all for now- Canman

Stuff on my mind today…

Canman | September 25, 2008

Back in the day when my wife and I were young, We made some poor choices and financial decisions.   When we needed the help from the bank, they wouldn’t help us.   Now they need help…. I say “Sorry Charlie”.    Use that money to bail out the people who are loosing their homes to the banks instead.    Not only will that solve the problem, but it will stimulate the economy.

My son has unknowingly posed a possible moral delema to me.  I have been playing Star Wars The Force Unleashed and beat the game.   I have not gotten all the X-Box Achievements yet.    I found a list of cheat codes and was very tempted to use them.     But do I really want to use them?    Should I use them?   I mean,  I’ve already played the game and beat it….  Why not?   Zach- thanks for making me think about that stuff.

I’m looking forward to The Frightmare Forest opening this weekend but will be unable to attend.    Friday night I am performing in my Improv Comedy Troupe “Closer Than They Appear” at Iowa State University.    Which promises to be fun, Saturday my wife and I are chaperoning Zach’s Washington Warrior Marching band‘s trip to a contest.   So both nights I’m booked up.

Are Chocodiles really God’s gift to junk food junkies?

That’s what I got for now- Canman

Canman’s “did ya know?” tip for the non tech savvy… TV on the net.

Canman | September 24, 2008

If you visit my site, you obviously have been introduced to the wonderful world of the Internet.    Did ya know you could watch many of your favorite TV shows and Movie’s for FREE and LEGALLY on the net?    I know that there are many tech savvy peeps out there that did, but there are soooo many more (like my wife) who did not.     Here’s a couple of the best out there.

HULU-  As long as you have the latest macromedia flash plug-in for your browser, with HULU you can watch many of your favorite NBC and Universal shows, full episodes, partial episodes and in many cases movies.   They do insert commercials into the shows and movies, but other than that they are un-edited.   They have some great content there.   Some of your favorite shows from the past like Barney Miller, Benson, Differen’t Strokes, The Incredible Hulk.  And many new shows.   Heck the premiere of the NBC show Chuck isn’t till next Monday night, you can watch the episode today!

Joost- The big difference between Joost and HULU is Joost requires you to install a program to get the content.   Joost has some of the same content you can get on HULU, but the also have some great original programing.

Hope this helps you catch any show premiere’s you may have missed.  Also be sure to check out the major network’s web sites.   They will often have ways you can watch full episodes of the shows you missed.

Have a great TV season- Canman
