Stuff on my mind today 10/16/08

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="320" caption="War Machine"][/caption]

Last night I spent the evening Volunteering for Theatre Cedar Rapids and help stuff prop bags for The Rocky Horror Show.   They are filling 2,000 of these bags with things like playing cards, Party Poppers, Toilet Paper… All sorts of stuff.   It was a lot of fun and had a great turn out!   I believe they will be doing this again next week.   Watch this site for when and where.

I read yesterday that Terrence Howard will not be in Iron Man 2as “Rhodey”…   I’m pretty bummed about this.   The chemistry he has with Robert Downey jr is awesome.  I was really looking forward to seeing him pimped out in the War Machine armor.  I suppose that Don Cheadle will work…   I’ll try to keep an open mind… I guess???

Next Tuesday October 21st,  Norm MacDonald will be playing at Penguins Comedy Club in Cedar Rapids.   Be sure to get your tickets now.  I can see this one selling out quickly.   I loved him on SNL, and his film work.   One of my favorite’s however is when he was the voice of “Death” on The Family Guy…

That’s what I got for today- Canman

Iron Man DVD review.

Have I mentioned how much I enjoyed the movie Iron Man?  I picked up the 2 disc special edition last night.  Zoe, Zada and I curled up on the couch and watched it.   Zoe fell asleep, but Zada LOVED it.  She was jumping arround pretending she was blasting the bad guys on the screen. I have to corrupt them now while they’re still young.

I caught myself geeking out over the DVD special features on disc 2.     The “I am Iron Man” documentary is totally worth the extra money alone, and that’s not the only special feature.  It chronicles the production of the film.  The documentary includes some priceless interviews with Stan Winston and had some great footage of Stan’s workshop.

It was also cool to see John Faverau’s interviews.   He REALLY slimmed down during the production.   For a fat guy like me, It was inspirational to see him drop the pounds.

Even if you’re not a comic book fan, pick this one up.  – Canman

As a member of “Closer Than They Appear” Improv comedy troupe, I performed for Iowa State University College of Engineering last Friday.  On the bill was us and Grant Imahara from Mythbusters…  (He wasn’t there when we were, so no autographs) It was a blast.   So a big THANK YOU to ISU for having us!

A couple notable new releases this week.  First Iron Man comes out on DVD.   This one is a BUY.  Ben Folds I(my absolute favorite musician of all time) has a new CD coming out tomorrow too titled “Way to Normal”.   I’ll  be picking both up tomorrow.

The premier of Chuck is on NBC tonight.    I didn’t watch it on HULU this past weekend, as I wanted to see it in HD.    Sure hope it was worth the wait.

I’m looking forward to this weeks episode of Ghost Hunters Wednesday evening.   It looks like it will be pretty exciting.  (I wish I had Sci Fi HD!)…

I’m wondering what we should discuss this week on the show?   Todd Gutknecht will be joining us.   Todd is one of the most talented voice impersonators I have ever met….  Should be a funny episode.

That’s all for now- Canman

Yeah Capitalism! Just in time for Christmas…

This month starts the kick off for items being released and prices being dropped “just in time for Christmas.”   All the summer blockbusters, the anticipated video games, the price drops seem to happen this time of year.   Here are some that I’m looking forward to.

Microsoft has announced that they are dropping their X-Box 360 console prices by $50.00 across the board.   So for $199.00, you’ll be able to pick up their bare bones “Arcade” model for less than the price of the WII ($249.00).   I personally would not pick up the Arcade Model as it does not include the hard drive which significantly reduces the functionality of the device.   I do recommend spending the extra cash ($299.00 to $349.00) on the “Pro” model.   It has everything you need to appreciate the functionality of the device.

To go with the X-Box 360 there are quite a few games being released.   On the list of games that I would like to get are:

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed- This game looks pretty awesome.   I’ve played the demo and enjoyed it.  I’ll be picking it up when it’s released on September 16th.

Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour-  In my opinion these are pretty much the same game.   These are the games getting credit for “saving the music industry”.  I enjoy both franchises but to me the subtle differences in the games are not enough to distinguish one franchise from the other.    I’m looking forward to seeing the improvements in the Rock Band drum peripheral and the differences in Guitar Hero’s version.    I’m sure I’ll be satisfied either way.    According to Amazon.com Guitar Hero World Tour Band Kitfor the Xbox 360 will be availible on October 26th 2008 and will retail for $189.99.   Amazon.com has two different release dated posted for Rock Band 2 for XBOX 360, Game only  $59.99 released on September 14th and Special Edition (with the instruments) $189.99 released on October 19th 2008.

I am a movie lover and am looking forward to picking up quite a few of this season’s biggest movies.   Below is a list of the release dates to the movies I’m adding to my collection.

Iron Man– September 30th

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls– October 14th

The Incredible Hulk-October 21st

Wall-E– November 18th

Horton Hears a Who– December 9th

Batman: The Dark Knight – not confirmed, December 9th

 Have a great day- Canman

My Christmas List 2008, First Draft.

About this time every year, my family starts asking for my family’s Christmas lists.   My mom always gives me crap for putting “big ticket” items on my list, but isn’t that what a Christmas list  is all about?   Putting the stuff you REALLY want on there?   Sure I’d be happy with a new shirt but, I dream big, so here I go:

Star Wars Toys:

The new Millenium Falcon:  This thing is SWEET!  Comparing it to the past versions of the Falcon this one is AMAZING.   The old one held 8 figures, this one holds 18!!!

Star Wars Republic AT-TE Vehicle: When I saw this in Attack of the Clones, I wanted one.   Way cool.

Books:

Small Favor by Jim Butcher:  This is book 10 in The Dresden Files series.  If you haven’t read this series, PICK IT UP!

The Sword of Truth, Boxed Set by Terry Goodkind: I’ve read and read this series several times, so many times in fact that my copies are wearing out.   Now the producer’s of Xena and Hercules are creating a new T.V. show about it called “The Legend of the Seeker”. (I pray they don’t screw it up).

Expensive stuff:

Sony PS3: I really just want the BlueRay Player, But for the SAME PRICE!!!  Why not get the PS3 and play the games.     What I REALLY want is for Xbox 360 to come out with a Blueray Player instead. But I can’t win them all, so I’ll just take the PS3 for now.

M-Audio Studio Monitors:  I already have the M-Audio Fast Track Ultra, Which I use as an interface when I record the podcast.  I would love the monitors to go with it.

Star Wars R2-D2 Web Cam and VOIP Phone: I could put this under “Star Wars Toys” but it’s too expensive.   Really check this out, it’s very cool.

Chewbacca Supreme Edition Costume: I wanted this so bad when it came out.  However I’m not very tall.   That explains why I also want the next item.

Drywall Stilts:  They are even called SkyWalker… How cool is that!!!

Movies:

IRON MAN!!!:  One of the coolest movies of 2008.   This is one that I’ll probably get for myself when it’s released on Sept 30th, so check with me before you get it… LOL.

The Nightmare Before Christmas DVD Box Set!!!:  One of my favorite movies of all times!   This is WAY cool.

Note I called this list my first draft.   I’ll add more later.

What do you have on your Christmas list?  Leave a comment or  Drop me a line, perhaps I’ll mention you and your list, on an upcoming episode of The Canman Show.

  Have a great day!- Canman
